LUDWIG MIES VAN DER ROHE 126th anniversay

Today we commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of  legendary German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe .
Regarded as one of the pioneers of modern architechture, Mies is said to have never taken any formal architectural training. He worked with several architects before he developed his own style. Like many of his post-World War I contemporaries, Mies wanted to establish a new architectural style that could represent modern times. He strived towards an architecture with a minimal framework of structural order balanced against the implied freedom of free-flowing open space, according to Wikipedia. He is known to call his buildings "skin and bones" architecture.

A few years after Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and the government-financed school he was heading was closed down by Nazis, Mies emigrated to the United States. In the US, Mies became the head of department of architecture at the Armour Institute of Technology, Chicago, which later came to be known as the Illinois Institute of Technology.

In 1944, Mies became an American citizen, severing all his ties from his native Germany. Mies architecture, with its origins in the German Bauhaus and western European style, became the popular choice for several American buildings like cultural and educational institutions, public agencies and many large corporations.

THE SECRETS OF KELLS

Plot apart that it´s quite simple, the visual concept and the animation are absolutely marvellous, it´s a pleasure to see it. Each frame could be inserted into a beautiful picture.I recommend it to you. A masterpiece. A masterpiece that doesn´t requiere to waste a lot a money on it, talent except.

I love it!

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards,
One blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colours burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em goin' "Oh, oh, oh"

You don't have to feel like a wasted space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colours burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em goin' "Oh, oh, oh"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colours burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em goin' "Oh, oh, oh"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Alhóndiga Bilbao

Alhóndiga Bilbao is a multi-purpose venue located in the city of Bilbao. It was designed by French designer Philippe Starck in collaboration with Thibaut Mathieu and it was opened to the public in stages between 18 May and 24 October, 2010. The venue, labeled as a "Culture and Leisure Centre", consists of a cinema multiplex, a fitness centre, a swimming pool, a library, showrooms, an auditorium, shops, and a restaurant.
Originally a wine warehouse, it was designed by Basque architect Ricardo Bastida and inaugurated in 1909. However, in the 1970s, a new warehouse was planned and the Alhóndiga was abandoned. Several projects were suggested, ranging from public housing, a museum of modern art, or even demolishing the entire building, but all were scrapped. Finally, in 1994 it was decided to renovate it and it build a sports and culture centre. The Basque Government decided to declare the building "Public Property of Cultural Interest" in 1999.
Three mouth ago I went to "La Alhóndiga Bilbao" and I was fascinating with the 43 different columns that stretch the Alhóndiga. It was incredible, a lot of columns built in several stiles. It took photos of some of them.
