Labyrinths

In our lives we can find a lot of labyrinths. A very popular way to decorate cathedrals, during the medieval Christendom was to draw a labyrinth on the floor or in the ceiling…

It is a good example, the famous labyrinth of Chartres 's cathedral. As you see in the image, it is a classic labyrinth.
The labyrinth which is on the right, correspond to the Matua Dukes' palace. This drawing is on the ceiling of a room.

We find as well in huge and rich gardeners. This way to cut the bushes was born in England in XII, as a result, the maces or mazes (garden labyrinths) is a fastantic way to decorate a garden.

and of course logos contain labyrinths:

Finally you probably look them in films or books:

China´s 5 elements (pentagram old-world symbol)

5 Elements Productive Cycle

In their ‘Productive’ Cycle’: Earth produces Metal, which produces Water, which produces Wood; this produces Fire, when extinguished this produces Earth (ashes) and the cycle begproduces ins anew. Each Element corresponds to one of the 5 major internal organs: Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys, Liver and Heart, in the above sequence, commonly represented via a Pentagon. These are a primary focus of 5 Elements Internal Qigong.

Analysing a work of art

Painting: Starry Night - Vicent Van Gogh

Analysis: The Starry Night is a very famous Van Gogh painting. It represents the landscape of a village and the starry sky of a beautiful and peaceful night.
Van Gogh used hard, dark and mixed colours and the painting technique is " Oil and Canvas" and he used curve lines.
In this painting, the most important structure are the stars. A very important structure too is the moon, located in the right top. At the bottom we can see the small houses and behind the houses a church. Behind the village we can see the wood and the mountains.

The labyrinth

One of the most famous labyrinths is in Crete, corresponding with the myth of the Minotaur. This story can be described from a psychological point of view: Theseus is able to overcome his animal side of his own nature.
In Egypt labyrinths usually appear in tombs.
A lot of Celtic tribes represented labyrinth. And it’s also frequent in Indian and Tibetan culture.
The symbolic meaning of the labyrinth in many of those cultures reflects the idea of an inner journey by the confusing and conflicting paths of the mind, until the explorer reaches the centre of the labyrinth and discovers the essential reality.
Labyrinths can be divided according to how develop their way:
- The labyrinth of one-way or classics have a single road which is screwed on itself until you reach the centre, so there is no risk of losing on it. The ancient European civilizations used these labyrinths as a stage for ritual dances.
The symbol of a labyrinth of only way, also known as the way of truth emerged with force in medieval Christendom. Christianity initially considered the labyrinth as a way of ignorance that apart they from God, but in the 14th century recovered its positive symbolism and started to represent the true path of faith. It was widely used in architecture
- In the other hand, the route of a multiply path labyrinth that splits several times and there’s a risk of getting lost on it, is an exercise much more individual and very threatening. This labyrinth symbolizes the way in which mind can be easily confused and can be deviate from its path in its attempts to find the way back to the source of its own being.

Logos

Some logos have changed over time. Some of them have changed its colour, its form, creating more modern logos. For example some brands that were created in last century has changed in the last years because its design was very old. Here there are some examples.
